AN AWARDED DESIGN STUDIO AND A BRAND BREATHING NEW LIFE INTO ONCE FORGOTTEN MATERIALS

ARTEK HELSINKI DESIGN WEEK MAIN EXHIBITION 2023

"Artek and Juslin Maunula come together to celebrate sustainable aesthetics and appreciation for materials. Once grown or produced, raw materials are valuable as such, and using them as widely as possible paves the way for more sustainable design. Artek's new products explore raw materials through a new visual standard of wood quality, use of recycled material and innovation. Juslin Maunula collection is created from high quality discarded textile from the past decades, giving a whole new life to the once forgotten material."

FINARTE RUG COLLECTION 2022

Juslin Maunula designed a ollection of six Wool Rugs for the Finnish design brand Finarte. For the rugs, Juslin Maunula got the inspiration for composing color areas and shapes from the work of color theorist Josef Albers. The rugs are responsibly handwoven in India from only natural materials and are traceable to the raw material.

The aim was to create a texture
that would give some movement to the rugs, which are static elements by nature. We had developed a way of cutting the soft, tufted material to a shape that resembled pleated
fabrics in fashion or fluting in architecture. The pleated surface creates a play of light and shadow,
evoking the feeling of movement.

JEWELRY DESIGN FOR KALEVALA

The Alluring jewelry designed for Kalevala Jewelry was inspired by basic shapes and their mirror images. The starting point for the design of Alluring jewelry has been insightful design, playfulness and combinability. The Vetovoima jewelry series shows the modular structure emanating from the architecture and the puzzle-like combinability of the parts.
