SUSTAINABILITY

We took on the challenge of designing a home collection out of discarded textile of random colour, syle and amount. There is a clear demand for new design methods and we felt the need to contribute by designing products from genuinely repurposed material that still appeal to the luxury consumer.

We came in contact with the Finnish interior textile retailer and found out that they have a desire to find use for discarded stock of interior textile, mostly left over rolls of discontinued styles.

The very strict limitiation of working with what textile was available was the obvious starting point of our design process. We approached the design problem using traditional patchwork style technique. We aimed to create visual effects of light and shade in the products by combining similar colours of different degree of darkness, all from the very limited colour palette of the textile that was available to us. Through combining colour and texture in right proportion and adding highlight colour in the seams we managed to elevate even the least attractive fabric into beautiful products. Our design work gave genuine new purpose to discarded material and the process resulted in a collection that feels fresh and unexpected.
